What is 4-HO-MET
The Tryptamine class associate 4-HO-MET. 4-HO-MET or 4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine is a chemical that can be said to induce psilocybin-like effects. There have been anecdotal reports of cognitive effects associated with this chemical. Alexander Shulgan, the Godfather of Psychedelics, was first to synthesize and to pharmacologize 4-HO-MET. His TiHKAL (Tryptamines that I have known and loved) was his report on the effects on humans. Important to remember that 4-HOMET is not for human consumption. However, it is important to take sufficient precautions when experiments are conducted.
All Tryptamines have a common structure that includes an amino group attached to a bicyclic heterocycle. This is attached at R3 by an ethyl sidechain. The R4 position of the indole heterocycle’s 4-HO-MET is where it is replaced (with a hydroxyl functional groups OH-). The structure also contains a methyl and ethyl chains bound to the terminalamine RN (MET) of its Tryptamine backbone.
4-HO-MET is a synthetic psychedelic compound that is often used in research for its effects on serotonin receptors in the brain. It is chemically similar to psilocin, the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” and produces similar effects such as altered perception, mood, and thought patterns.
